How to Verify

1. Use the DNV certificate verification portal

Navigate to dnv.com directly and locate the certificate verification service. Enter the certificate number to confirm authenticity and check validity dates.

2. Check the certificate number format

DNV issues certificates with a structured reference number. A certificate that returns no result in the portal should be treated as suspect.

3. Cross-check the vessel’s class record

DNV’s Veracity platform provides public vessel data including class status and certification. Search by IMO number at dnv.com.

4. Red flags

  • Any certificate that cannot be verified through the DNV portal at dnv.com
  • The issuing entity is named “DNV-GL International,” “DNV Classification Society,” “Det Norske Veritas International,” or similar — these are not the genuine DNV entity
  • Contact email at a non-dnv.com address
  • The classification society website is not dnv.com
