The Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) is India’s national classification society and a full IACS member. It provides classification and statutory certification services, primarily to Indian-flagged vessels, as well as international clients.
How to Verify
1. Use the IRS vessel search
IRS provides online access to class records through its official website. Search by IMO number to verify current class status.
2. Red flags
- Certificate contact email not at an IRS domain
- Classification society named anything other than “Indian Register of Shipping”
- No unique certificate reference number
