Korean Register (KR), formerly Korean Register of Shipping, is South Korea’s national classification society and a full IACS member. It provides classification, statutory certification, and technical services to Korean-flagged and international vessels.
How to Verify
1. Use the KR vessel search
KR provides online access to class records through its official website. Search by IMO number to verify current class status and valid certificates.
2. Red flags
- Certificate contact email not at a KR domain
- Classification society named “Korean Register of Shipping” (former name), “Korea Classification,” or similar variants — the current legal name is “Korean Register”
- No unique certificate reference number
