Lloyd's Register

LR

IACS Member EU Recognized

Lloyd’s Register (LR) is one of the oldest maritime classification societies, founded in 1760, and a full IACS member headquartered in London.

How to Verify

1. Access vessel records through the LR website

Class records and certificate status for LR-classed vessels are available through lr.org. Search by IMO number to check current class and certification status.

2. Verify the certificate reference

LR certificates carry a unique certificate reference number. Contact LR directly through lr.org if the record cannot be confirmed online.

3. Check the issuing entity

The genuine entity is “Lloyd’s Register” — do not confuse with Lloyd’s of London (a separate insurance market) or with variations such as “Lloyd’s Maritime Register,” which are not the genuine classification society.

4. Red flags

  • Certificate refers to “Lloyd’s” without specifying “Lloyd’s Register” specifically
  • The classification website is not lr.org
  • No unique certificate reference number
  • Certificate contact email is not at an lr.org address
