Gard is one of the world’s leading marine insurers, providing P&I and marine insurance from Norway. It is a member of the International Group of P&I Clubs.

How to Verify

1. Go to Gard’s official website

Navigate to gard.no directly and locate the certificate verification section. Do not follow links from documents under review.

2. Enter the certificate number

A valid Gard certificate will return the insured vessel name, IMO number, period of cover, and certificate status. If the number returns no result, the certificate should be treated as fraudulent.

3. Check the certificate itself

Legitimate Gard certificates:

• List gard.no as the contact domain
• Include a unique certificate number
• Reference the vessel’s IMO number
• Are signed by an authorised Gard officer
• Modern certificates include a QR code linking to the verification portal

4. Red flags

• Certificates that reference “Gard” but list a different website domain
• No certificate number or a number that fails verification
• Contact email at a free email provider
• “Gard International,” “Gard Maritime,” or similar variants — Gard’s legal name is simply “Gard P&I (Bermuda) Ltd” or “Gard Marine & Energy Limited”
